Aimimage & the Sony F35 Have A Busy Start to 201018 Jan 2010 It seems that in 2010 Digital Cinematography has come into its own with the F35. “The current range of 2k(5k chip sub-sampling down to 2k) camera are starting to come into maturity by allowing DoPs to take their skill in lighting and depth of field for film and video and converge them into a new Digital Cinematography practice.” .” The Sony Cinealta F35 2k camera has recently been selected as the preferred shooting format for the ITV Drama series Sherlock as well as several television adverts including one for Greggs the bakers.
The F35 features: a super 35mm size CCD sensor, 50fsp uncompressed 4:4:4 1920 x 1080 RGB image acquisition, and 35mm film PL mounts as standard. The camera works particularly well in longer depth of field and low-light conditions. The smaller size of the camera body allows for ease in location shooting and provides productions with the benefits of immediate review of rushes.
“In this period where every production is trying to trim costs, digital cameras are providing Drama and Commercial Producer’s with the type of savings that 16mm or digi-beta used to provide while working at a 35mm equivalent image quality” says Keane.
“But at the end of the day, the DoP needs to know what they are doing to make the most of the tools they use for job. As a camera rental company we are here to provide support to our clients to make productions work to budget and visual aspiration.”
